Dartmouth Recruiting Program
WHAT IS THE RECRUITING PROGRAM AND WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
The recruiting program provides a structured process for current Dartmouth students to search, apply and interview for both internships and entry-level jobs. We invite employers from a wide variety of industries and locations to join the recruiting program; however, only a small fraction – those who have substantial resources and hiring needs – will participate in on-campus recruiting.
- Our recruiting program is open to:
- Enrolled B.A. students of Dartmouth College
- Enrolled B.E., M.E.M., M.S. and Ph.D. students from Thayer School of Engineering
- Enrolled Graduate students in Arts and Sciences
- Enrolled TDI students
*Alumni and DMS students are not eligible to participate in recruiting.
Our policies help make the recruiting process fair for everyone involved. Every student participating in the Recruiting Program must review and comply with the following policies. Failure to do so will result in the loss of recruiting privilege
ON CAMPUS RECRUITING OVERVIEW & HANDSHAKE
The CPD uses the Handshake platform to facilitate the on campus recruiting program, which provides a structured process for current Dartmouth students to search, apply and interview for both internships and entry-level jobs. While the majority of entry-level on-campus interviewing occurs during Fall Term, recruiting occurs throughout the year during other terms for employers with later hiring cycles. Internship recruiting occurs year round. See our Recruiting Calendar and log into Handshake to browse opportunities and apply.
Employers also host info sessions, coffee chats and other events at the beginning of fall, winter, spring, and summer term, and these events are posted in the Handshake system. Students who attend can learn about individual organizations, their opportunities, application processes, and chat with alums who are currently working there. See Employer Event Tips. Events in the recruiting program can be located by applying this label filter (link opens Handshake).
Login to Handshake to complete your profile and visit the links below for instructions on how to manage your on campus recruiting activity. Some employers are only collecting resumes through the recruiting program and will manage their own interview logistics, referred to as “resume drops.” Students can locate a list of all full-time and internship opportunities in the current recruiting program in Handshake by applying this label filteropens Handshake).

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES IN RECRUITING
Misrepresentation
Students who participate in any application process supported by the Center for Professional Development must accurately represent their academic and personal history on all documentation submitted as part of their application. Any student who misrepresents any information will lose the support of the CPD in all future application processes and will be referred to the undergraduate Community Standards and Accountability Office for further disciplinary action.
Interview Scheduling
All interviews should be scheduled around academic commitments. If an employer is pressuring you to take an interview at a specific date/time that causes difficulty, email srs@dartmouth.edu promptly so that we can help. Students must be living in the Upper Valley area for the term in order to sign up for an on-campus interview through Handshake. Off-campus candidates will be considered for phone/video interviews, and employer decisions for those interviews will appear in Handshake.
Changes/Cancellations
You may change or cancel your interview time slot in Handshake up until 8:30 am TWO BUSINESS DAYS PRIOR to your interview (e.g. 8:30 am Thursday for a Monday interview). Neither changes nor cancellations are accepted after that point. DO NOT contact employers directly to change or cancel on-campus interviews.
No Shows
Failure to show up for an interview will result in the loss of recruiting privileges. Unless you have cancelled your interview by 8:30 am TWO BUSINESS DAYS PRIOR, you will be considered a “no show” if you do not arrive on time for a scheduled interview. If an emergency arises, call the CPD at 603-646-1665.
Reneging on Offers:
Recruiting Program employers have agreed to comply with our offer deadlines. If you need help with a deadline extension, let us know! After you accept a job or internship offer (verbally or in written form), you must stop all further interviewing and immediately notify employers where you have an offer or interview pending, regardless of how the offer was obtained.
If you accept an internship or full-time offer and then fail to show up to that internship or job on the start date, you will lose all future access to the Center for Professional Development, including but not limited to events, recruiting, job postings, and advising.
